For Your Mental Health and Well Being

Adult Counselling & Therapy Services

There are no insignificant reasons to reach out, you matter. You don’t have to walk through life alone.

We live in a world where it might be difficult to ask for help. We are taught to be brave and courageous and to do things on our own. You don’t have to walk through life alone. I recognize the courage you have in reaching out. Maybe you’ve been feeling stuck, lost, or discontent or you are at a turning point in your life. These are all valid reasons to reach out and connect. There are no insignificant reasons to reach out.

Find your inner balance.

Through therapy, we can delve into different areas of your life in depth and how you became the person you are today. Therapy can be helpful as you have an objective person witnessing you, supporting you, and at times challenging you.

While in session, we get to explore aspects of your life that work and parts of your life that you would like to change or explore in more depth. This means at times we work in the past and sometimes we work on things that are happening in the present. While therapy is helpful in session, it’s important for you to do some of the work outside of therapy and implement the things to you take from therapy.

How can we find appreciation for the past versions of you that will make future selves proud and thankful?

Areas of Focus

  • Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety and depression can manifest in many different ways; however, there are some signs you may notice such as you are not sleeping as well as you used to, you feel more agitated, or have lost interest in things that used to bring you some contentment. Feelings of stuckness and hopelessness may also start to arise.

This could look like: Lingering feelings of sadness, low mood, hopelessness, suicidality, overwhelming feelings, nervousness, and/or fear.

  • Trauma & PTSD

Trauma is quite complex and is an emotional response which occurs when you go through something that is life altering. This can be from a car accident, rape, abuse and can manifest emotionally, mentally, and physically. Trauma that occurs in childhood, such as abuse, can impact your livelihood in the present.

This could look like: Intense fear, helplessness, horror, or being exposed to traumatic events (whether it is a one-time incident or ongoing exposure such as car crash, abusive household, sexual assault, sexual abuse to name a few)

  • Self-Esteem & Identity

A disruption in the sense of who you are can create tension within yourself and cause you to feel lost or stuck. You may find yourself doing things that aren’t in alignment with who you believe you are. This may result in abandoning parts of yourself or becoming neglectful of your needs.

This could look like: A diminished sense of value, feelings of worthlessness, feeling lack of purpose, difficulty regulating feelings, difficulty understanding your values

  • Grief & Loss

Grief and loss are not just experienced through death, but through relationships, as well as the loss of pieces of ourselves we leave behind. Loss and grief can be experienced when we recognize life as we know it no longer is.

This could look like: Sorrow, rumination, persistent longing, numbness, overwhelming sadness, exhaustion, anger

How It Works

01

Consultation

Ready to take the next step in your healing journey and enroll in therapy?

Book a 15-minute phone consultation where we will go over needs, goals, and questions. It will also give us a chance to connect to see if we are the right fit for one another. Note that as of present, I am offering online therapy until further notice.

02

Intake

During this process, I will be sending you two forms to read and fill out. One of them being the intake form and the other the consent to online therapy, should this be the option you choose.

Prior to the initial appointment date, I would recommend verifying with your insurance company to make sure psychotherapy is covered.

03

Initial Appointment

During our first appointment, I will be asking you a series of questions about your life, your routine, the frequency of what you are experiencing as well as your life in general (ex: relationships, sleeping pattern, eating habits, coping, spirituality to name a few)

Please note this is not a “normal” session. In this session, we get to set goals to work towards. You may want to think of these prior to our appointment.

04

Treatment

The following appointments will be based on you and what your needs are.

After we have discussed goals, we will start working towards these together. I welcome you to bring anything you would like to discuss during our session. It may be helpful to take notes throughout the week of things that have come up in order to remember them when you get to our meeting.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • There is no short answer here, as some insurance companies do and others will not. Due to the policy differences from person to person I would recommend you verify with your insurance company prior to booking an appointment. In addition, asking if your therapist has to be supervised by a psychologist is of importance.

  • People from all walks of life start therapy. Some individuals may shy away from therapy as they may feel like their problems are not “big” enough to seek therapy. All issues, are welcome in therapy. Therapy is a place for self observation and a place to learn about yourself through different approaches to feel more connected to who you are.

  • My rate per session is $175.

  • Sessions are typically 50 minutes. The therapist will start wrapping things up at the 45-minute mark to give time for closing / summarizing and booking.

  • A Registered Psychotherapist (RP) is an individual who is registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario https://www.crpo.ca/.

To expand on the differences, I have expanded below on what distinguishes them from one another:

    • Psychologists typically have doctoral degrees in clinical psychology and the authority to perform psychological testing, and assessments, and convey a diagnosis.

    • Psychiatrists are medical doctors who have specialized in mental health treatment. Psychiatrists typically perform assessments, convey a diagnosis, and prescribe medication.

    • Psychotherapy is a controlled health profession act in Ontario. The definition of the controlled act of psychotherapy in Ontario is “treating by means of psychotherapy technique, delivered through a therapeutic relationship, an individual’s serious disorder of thought, cognition, mood, emotional regulation, perception or memory that may seriously impair the individual’s judgment, insight, behavior, communication or social functioning.” In Ontario, Registered Psychotherapists are authorized to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy.

    • Life Coaches can provide guidance on life decisions and peer support, but cannot prescribe medication, diagnose people, or provide mental health therapy.
